Occidental Petroleum Electrical Engineering Team Lead in Midland, Texas

Title: Electrical Engineering Team Lead Location: United States-Texas-Midland Other Locations: United States-Texas-Sundown

This position is responsible for the management of engineering and design, maintenance and repair, and daily engineering operations from purchase power locations through end use points. Also provides new electrical technology solutions that encompass the entire Oxy organization to help make the electrical teams more effective and efficient while also providing benefits to other teams within the organization.

Roles and Responsibilities:• Assist in setting goals and long term vision with Electrical Systems Manager • Aligns Electrical Operations and Maintenance Engineering Team with goals, standards, surface operational strategies, best practices and ensures execution of Maintenance Strategy • Interfaces between support functions and Asset Team Leads to establish and manage boundaries • Creates an environment where members of the team make the day-to-day decisions while providing the tools, training, and support needed to make those decisions. • Deliver on production, project costs, safety & environmental targets for Asset Team • Ensure execution of business plan • Coach and mentor team members, assist with performance management and career development through rotational assignments, projects, and training • Accountability for Electrical Engineering field equipment condition • Provide a customer support mentality for Electrical Operations and Maintenance Engineering team • Consult Asset teams on engineering technology availability and cost savings • Ensure that Team Goals are aligned with Asset teams for each area • Ensure adequate technical expertise to support Asset Teams • Manage Team truck fleet of Direct reports • Responsible for hiring and onboarding of new employees • Support field and plants on projects • Responsible for ensuring that project timelines are met, and Project process is followed • Provides guidance on setting, implementing and changing standards around Electrical equipment and processes • Responsible for documenting Standards and 5 year Electrical Distribution Plans and Forecasts • Support CMMS system integration of Electrical Equipment • Participate in RCFA of Electrical failures Education: • BS Degree in electrical engineering Professional/Technical Knowledge: • Must be knowledgeable of electrical safety requirements as found in publications such as NFPA 70E • Must have knowledge of Arc Flash Hazards • Knowledge of power engineering, distribution system design and construction, engineering economics and statistics, feasibility and power factor correction studies, load flow and motor starting studies, system reliability analysis, symmetrical components, voltage regulation, transformer sizing and analysis and over-current coordination principals and sectionalizing devices to include relays, breakers, sectionalizers, reclosers, and fuses, transmission system protection and control, substation design and construction principles • NEC,NESC and OSHA standards • Distribution System Planning and Forecasting Methods Professional / Technical Qualifications/Licences/Certifications: • Professional Engineering Certificate preferred • Professional Management Professional Certificate preferred Experience: • Experience in Electric Distribution Systems and Planning • Experience in Electrical Facility and Power Project development and execution • Candidates should have 3 to 15 years’ experience in a similar engineering capacity Skills & Competencies: • In depth experience with managing electrical facility construction, operations and maintenance • Valued contributor to business analysis and planning at all levels • Strong communication skills (verbal/written/listening/presentation) • Problem solving skills with ability to analyze and recommend solutions on problems of high complexity • Understanding of Surface Operational Strategies of Reliability Maintenance & Mechanical Efficiency Factor • General knowledge of Asset Team, Risk / AI team, IT and HES and Automation • Expert level competency in electrical systems • Visionary for process improvement and development of new technologies • Ability to complete staffing plans to ensure adequate staffing levels to support the business plan • Ability to develop team professional and technical skills though coaching, feedback, training and development • Provide a customer support mentality • Extensive expertise in safe work systems • Knowledge of material specifications and application • Understanding of regulatory guidelines • Ability to manage Budget • Strong Leadership and Mentoring skills • Ability to perform under pressure • Expert computer skills (MS Office Suite, CAD software Oxy proprietary software, Electrical vendor proprietary software, etc.) • Demonstrate ability to perform strong time management skills • Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines • Ability to analyze data, perform complex engineering analysis, meet deadlines, and prepare comprehensive reports • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with officers, managers, supervisors, fellow employees, representatives of outside agencies and consultants and the public • Ability to maintain a strong sense of propriety concerning confidential matters • Valid driver’s license and comply with the Company’s Driving Program policy.
