Purpose of Position

The Supply Analyst, Fuel Center is responsible for loadshifting and spot purchase on behalf of FuelCenter’s customers. This position assesses market opportunities each day and advises logistics specialists on tactical options that will lead to the lowest cost and most secure source of supply. Additionally, the position may assist other groups from time to time, such as our sales team by helping benchmark how prospective customers are buying fuel. Finally, the position is a central relationship manager for all the various fuel suppliers and common carriers with whom we interact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess Daily and Intraday Loadshifting Opportunity and distribute to Logistics Team Members.

  • Establish and continuously improve the Spot Purchase (Best Buy) options for FuelCenter customers by relationship building with suppliers and carriers, optimizing portfolios with efficient combinations, and owning the integration process for the program

  • Track and report daily progress on loadshifting and Best Buy by logistics specialist and by customer using Visual Management process.

  • Own the countermeasure process for underperforming accounts by leveraging relationships appropriately.

  • Craft optimal customer portfolio that balances cost savings and supply security.

  • Audit Logistics Team member performance by conducting regular reviews on execution

  • Support emergency tactical readiness during times of extreme weather phenomenon and other supply chain disruptions Relationships

  • This position reports directly to the Director, Supply Team.

  • Collaborate with suppliers, partners, and other work teams to leverage their expertise and core competencies to achieve company deliverables. Measures of Performance

  • The amount of savings that are identified for prospective customers.

  • Creating a supply portfolio that meets or exceeds those target savings.

  • The quality of suppliers participating in the various RFPs.

  • The development of the team which reports to the manager.

  • Success in meeting performance objectives as defined by critical success factors.

  • On time performance as measured by lack of delays on key deliverables.


Background and Skills

  • Knowledge of fuel pricing and contracting mechanisms.

  • Understand market timing and underlying fundamentals that move rack and spot market.

  • Understand product property requirement differences.

  • Familiarity with fuel supplier contract mechanisms such as Platts, OPIS, Argus, and DTN based pricing.

  • Knowledge of motor fuel supply chain.

  • Basic knowledge of motor fuel tax laws and regulations.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, advanced degree a plus.

  • 3-5 years of energy industry expertise required.

  • Previous pricing analysis work for major oil company or jobber preferred.

  • Previous experience with managing supply in Canada a plus.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills to negotiate with third parties such as suppliers and carriers required.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills to communicate strategy with clients required.

  • Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skills) required.

  • Must be able to understand issues and resolve independently.

  • Attention to detail and strong process orientation required.

  • Demonstrated ability to strive for continuous process improvement and growth required.

  • Must manage time well and be comfortable working on multiple clients simultaneously.
