Harley Marine Services Dispatcher - Harley Marine Gulf in Channelview, Texas

Schedule and coordinate flow work for vessels based in Houston, Texas. Schedule and coordinate flow of work based on customer orders, establish priorities and availability of personnel, equipment, and resources. Maintain records, process paperwork to ensure proper billing for services to customers. Maintain communications with vessel Captains and barge PIC’s regarding change of orders via radio, computer or cell communications. Assist in developing and monitor procedures and programs to track company and crew activities. Dispatch personnel in response to incidents and emergency requests from vessels.

  • Accurately complete required Company and Customer documentation.

  • Employee feedback on scheduling courtesy and communications.

  • Adherence and understanding of Harley Marine Services operating policies and procedures.

  • Four year college education in Maritime or related studies; or equivalent experience.

  • Three (3) years of increasing responsibilities in maritime industry.

  • USCG license and PIC endorsement on Merchant Mariner Document preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of the local operating area.

  • Extensive knowledge of tugboat and oil transportation industry preferred.

  • Knowledge of tug and barge maintenance systems and equipment preferred.

  • Must be able to maintain organization and detailed documentation in a fast paced changing environment.

  • Capable of making decisions and giving directions to facilitate prompt service delivery.

  • Must be capable of calculating barge load and discharge plans after training.

  • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance.

  • Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs at sea and in port.

  • Ability to interface with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel applications.

  • HAZWOPER training.

  • First Aid/CPR/AED training.

  • Valid TWIC or ability to obtain upon hire.

  • Valid State Driver’s License.

  • Required to sit for long periods of time.

  • Infrequent light physical effort required.

  • May be required to board tugs and barges while in port.

  • Work with computers, fax machines, copiers, scanners, Microsoft operating systems.

  • Normal office hours are 0800 to 1700 Monday thru Friday but must have flexibility in this schedule.

  • May occasionally be required to cover after hours dispatch service.

  • Take communications 24 hours a day, including weekends, concerning changes in schedules and other operating issues.
