Position Summary

  • The Piping Specification Engineer must have a thorough working knowledge of the SPRD (Smart Plant Reference Data) dB tool; and capable of building specifications in SPRD; this includes being responsible for building consistent catalogue components that fully integrate with project specifications, design systems, procurement systems etc.

    oThorough working knowledge in using industrial codes and standards (i.e. ASME, ASTM, API, MSS)

    oVery knowledgeable of developing and maintaining piping materials specifications and liaison with all associated disciplines in order to complete and issue the specifications.

    oThorough understanding calculations for ASME Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) wall thickness and branch tables.

    oExperience in gathering information to perform technical bid evaluations.

    oCheck calculations made by other piping spec engineers

  • Lead Piping Materials Engineer responsible for managing the piping specifications, line list and specialty items data sheet development activities and deliverables associated with larger capital EPC projects in excess of 1 billion dollars.

    oCoordinate with other Group and Department members specifically the piping MTO team of specialists and their effort, metallurgists, welding engineers as well as non-metals materials engineers/specialists.

    oMonitor progress and performance and provide input to project leads to assure quality and consistency for all role associated deliverables and meeting the schedule

    oDemonstrates customer focus in all actions

    oEnsure adherence to industry codes and standards as well as department work instructions, specifications, and standards for assigned project

    oDevelop fabrication/construction specifications of all piping components and materials.

    oCheck the review of bid tabulations on quotations received.

    o Review of vendor drawings and data used for oil, gas, and petrochemical processing facilities. Must be able to communicate detailed design issues effectively with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines.

    oInterface with Work-share ‘offshore’ offices to ensure scope is fully conveyed, and to ensure quality/consistency for all associated deliverables

    oMust assist in the development and update of discipline standards and procedures.


  • 4 years of total experience required

  • 2 years’ experience in oil & gas and chemical industry experience required

  • BS in Engineering/Technology with PE License preferred

  • MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • SPRD/S3D/Smartplant experience required

  • Professional Society membership and Continuing Education in areas of Piping Engineering

  • Extensive experience with piping and valve manufacturers and pipe shops

  • Small capital project experienced

  • Demonstrates a broad technical knowledge of engineering

  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience with Smart Plant Suite of Tools i.e. SPPID, SPRD, S3D

  • Experience in engineering and/or construction work process

  • Must have knowledge of ASME B31.3 Process Piping Code, API design standards.
